Interesting. Wonder if Fehr wants to test it and see if it improves any between now and Jan 2nd or 3rd.

I have only heard via twitter pretty much what the article you posted has said.

The wheels are back in motion again, along with our emotions.

    Yup... that is interesting.

The NHL's max contract lengths was previously 5 years, I believe... so to shift to 6/7 at least "seems" like a pretty good compromise towards the NHL's desire of 8 year contracts. That has felt like the main sticking point, IMO.

    I didn't understand this part:
9:32AM: LeBrun says that the new offer allows teams to have one compliance buyout prior to the 2013-14 season. It doesn’t count against the cap but it does count against the players share.

    What does that mean exactly?

PLEASE say this brings me my hockey back!!

Watching WJC right now and can't wait to see some of these kids making fantasy impact... but as soon as I get excited, I become depressed again thinking about how far away we could end up being from NHL games.

I hope this spawns the final negotiations to start on January 15th...

I will allow myself to ride this next wave of optimism because I know this is it! Shit or get off the pot time!

And Bill was always the grown-up of that couple...

Such a sad day for hockey...

Interesting to see Bob MacKenzie give credit to Eklund for breaking the story in the article too.

Now we just have to wait on the NHLPA give their negative spin on the offer. Once again, we will hear how the NHL has yet to give anything and the players are giving up everything.

Oh the joy of it all. I almost wish these things stayed quiet instead of being bantered by media. Just let us know when a deal is actually done.

I'm guessing that it likely has something to do with the Make Whole provision. Or, possibly, it could come out of the players share of revenue before the cap is determined.

    Just some wild guesses though.

It won't count against the team's salary cap, but the player's 50% is impacted - the overall share that the players get. That part may not wash, especially if the buyout is for a player with a lot of years left.

Yeah, it counts towards the players total salary in terms of escrow pay and so on, but not against each team's salary cap.

So - does the player still get their money?
Or is their some NHLPA pot involved?
(I honestly still don't get it)

Who would be some likely examples?
    DiPietro (NYI)?
    Anybody else?
