Karlsson's contract expires after this season and I wouldn't surprise to see him leave the NHL. More of a gut feeling as I have no evidence here. The goalie market is flooded and there are no games to play when Kipper gets 70+ starts all the time. I could see Brust get a cheap one-way contract to be the new backup and buy Irving one more year.

In terms of what is happening now, a 3-man rotation is not good for anyone's development.

Let's not forget Karri Ramo whose rights Calgary owns. He has expressed desire to come back to NHL after his KHL deal expires which is next summer. Kipper won't be around too long anymore so he could come over and be Kipper's back up for a year before getting the reigns. Or be Kipper's backup a year and then seek #1 duty somewhere else as he'd be UFA if he signs only one-year deal.

Plan is Ramo to back up after his is finnished his russian commitments (this year), until Kippers contract is done and he is gone...

Karlsson or Irving moving on... (apperently Irving is the goalie of choice to leave the organization, which is good for Irving owners, he is ready for backup duty, but needs oppertunity for it)

Brust was suppose to be insurance for Abbotsford since Joni Ortio wasn't coming back and it was expected Karlsson or Irving would be delt early... Brust has no NHL contract and can be grabbed by anyone... At this point I'd se him signing with anyone offering him a contract as a 3rd stringer 2 way....

So in a perfect world Ramo would eventually start, Karlsson would backup, Taylor would be 3rd string, maybe Ortio comes and tries again as he has talent, and Broissot develops on a smiler 3-5 year plan like Irving did...

I really don't see Karlsson having a future with the Flames. He's been nothing but a disappointment every time he's had to fill in for Kipper. He simply hasn't been able to make the best of the few chances he's gotten. He's not that young anymore and there's plenty of similarly talented goalies out there - even within the same organisation. He's done with the Flames after this year.

I honestly think Calgary will go out and acquire another goalie down the road(if and when Kipper is done). None of these goalies will do it for them.

    Winning!!! lol

Obviously both were on on Waivers so Calgary had no value on either... They were trying to move Irving, but obvioulsy they got no where and Karlsson had 7th rounder value lol

This is not much of a move forward for Karlsson tho... still behind Emery and Crawford, he is likely heading to the AHL to play with Carter Hutton...

Its funny, because Hutton is probably ahead of him on the depth chart as well.

lol naw Hutton is terrible... he is fine in the AHL but he wouldnt hack it in the NHL, lots of holes... Chicago has no Prospect Depth... Alec Richards and Kent Simpson are not good... Coming along is Mac Carruth, but he is in jr several years away, Brandon Whitney has potential but still in Jr, and Johan Mattsson is yet to show what he has...

Karlsson is 29 and gives them a couple years after Emery moves on...
