Default Adam Larsson vs. Victor Hedman

Which of these two young stud D-men is the first one to break out offensively in NHL? And do you see any difference between their upsides?

Both of them are having good seasons so far:

Larsson has 10 points in 18 games which is good enough for 2nd in scoring for his team. The leading scorer of his team, Jacob Josefson has 12 points. No other D-man has more than 4 points for Albany Devils.

Hedman on the other hand has 18 assists in 22 games in KHL. That's good enough for 8th amongst all D-men in that league. Hedman is 4th in scoring in his team and the leading scorer (Brandon Bochenski) has 25 points in 32 games.

I think I'd have to go with Hedman there. He started to show great strides last year after he returned from a concussion. So it seems like he may be closer to figuring out the NHL than Larsson.

I'll go with Larsson on this one. Hedman has the better forwards in TB but Larsson doesn't need to share with anyone once Zids is gone. Someone still needs to pass the puck to Kovi in NJ.

Both players have similar upside but Larsson has less competition compared to Hedman. There is too many dmen in Tampa to give Hedman a fair shot at scoring points. I like Larsson more.

go for hedman. he seems to be coming out of his "growing pains" phase that many younger players go through. where as larsson is still at the beginning of his growing pains and will be very inconsistent for the next couple years. hedman has higher upside.

Keep in mind as well that Hedman has played around 10 games less than the dmen that are ahead of him in scoring. He would be 2nd with the same games played.

    Larsson, Adam.

Both will be comparable but Larsson will have the keys to the castle and Barberio will be running a large chunk of the offensive from the Bolts D (and will also be the all the rage in fantasy by July).

I'd say that one of Merrill/Gelinas has as good of a chance at getting first PP honors in NJ over Larsson as Barberio does of getting that in TB over Hedman. The wild card is Matt Carle of course, but overall I think that TB will score way more goals than NJ for the foreseeable future (especially with Parise gone) so I go with Hedman. It is close though.

Wouldn't say Larsson has any less of competition for icetime in NJ, be it PP or ES, then Hedman in TB. Beyond the over priced Carle, who is Hedman competing with? Hedman is very young and has 3 NHL seasons under his belt. Yzerman & company are still very high and very confident in Hedmans talent/projection and he will be given plenty of opportunities to continue to evole his offensive abilities.

Remember, dmen take a little while to mature...especially big bodied dmen. I expect Larsson to take an almost identical path as Hedman has so far. Fantasy wise, Hedman should have more value in virtually all league formats, seeing as he has chances of becoming a decent fantasy contributor sooner than Larsson will. Both players project similar paths, as no. 1 dmen, with Hedman having an edge in size and skating and Larsson having the better shot.

Also like to add that Barberio has a long ways to go before he would take away any of Hedmans icetime. Barberio is a decent prospect, one I am excited about, but w/ tempered expectations. Wouldnt worry about Gelinas or Merrill taking Larssons icetime either, not realistic, especially anywhere in the near future.
