Good point about short stories working better as movies than full books, or series of books for that matter.
I wouldn't even call that a novella. It's a short story and took me almost no time to read. It's a great one though. Basically everything from the movie is in there and with little left out. I am not a fan of books turned into movies but when you take a short story it translates much better because you don't have to cut anything. If anything I'd say the movie added more than was in the story, which almost never happens.

Thank you metaldude!
Both the movie and its soundtrack do not get enough credit! One of my favorite movies in the past years!
My new recent 5 are:
- Contraband (6.5/10): I had wanted to watch this movie when it first came out but I did not get a chance until recently... Pretty disappointing Wahlberg movie with a trailer that gives you the impression that this movie is bigger than it really is.
- Jack Reacher (8/10): Surprisingly good Tom Cruise movie that was inspired from a graphic novel series. Cruise plays a ''detective'' who is out to get the facts on a sniping spree.
- World War Z (8/10): I have to say, I was expecting worse. I had read the book a long time ago so I didn't really remember any of the stories. Pitt played his role well and kept a decent credibility even in the most far fetched scenes. It was no ''I Am Legend'', but it was good nonetheless.
- Get The Gringo (8.5/10): Another surprisingly good flick! I was browsing my Netflix account when I stumbled on this one. I was not expecting much but I was glad to have taken a chance on it. A clever Mel Gibson movie around a robbery gone wrong that keeps you intrigued until the very end.
- The Raid: Redemption (8.5/10): An awesome martial arts movie (with subtitles) about a SWAT team that gets trapped in an apartment complex ran by a drug lord. If you have seen the new Judge Dredd (I STRONGLY recommend you do so if you haven't), you will see many similarities in both. The acting is nothing to write home about, but the action scenes easily make up for it!

not 5 to report this time,
but I watched the Wolf of Wallstreet last night.
Decent show, but was a tad disappointed. Some parts went in too much detail, and some important details (in my opinion) were left out.
Probably wouldn't watch that again
That book, Different Seasons, produced some great films. It has four novellas (yeah Shawshank was short) and also resulted in the films Stand By Me and Apt Pupil. It's been awhile since I read Shawshank, but I do remember feeling it was pretty similar, as metaldude said. The whole book is worth a read, IMO.
Watched The Raid this weekend thanks to some positive reviews here. Sick flick.
They are making a 2nd one! The same main actor is in it, but I'm not sure how they will spin it this time around...
Have you seen the new Judge Dredd movie? As I said in my review above, if you liked The Raid, chances are you will enjoy JD (not the Stallone one though).

Watched Dallas Buying Club over the weekend. Depressing subject matter but incredible acting chops by McConaughey and Leto. 8.5/10

Last ones I watched were
Lone Survivor: Awesome movie! Thought it was incredible
Gravity: BORING! Shut it off after 45 minutes. What a waste of time
Delivery Man: Not too bad, not too great
Anchorman 2: Meh, not that great
Elysium: Great concept, but it left a lot to be desired. They should have made this in a few parts and went into much better detail.
The Lone Ranger: Didn't care for it
Escape Plan: I enjoyed this one a lot. Not great story, but loved Schwarzenegger and Stallone
Watched 12 Years a Slave last night. It was an experience (I hate saying I enjoyed something of such a subject matter) was very well done. Just a reminder that it was basically one giant holocaust for those folks, over a LONG period of time.
Hockey Pools? Too many to mention. Points only, salary cap and dynasty.
Can't remember the 4 before this.....but LEGO is absolutely hilarious and so well done. From the little quirky jokes that people who had Lego would understand, to the use of actual licensed characters like Batman and Superman. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
Under the Skin was incredible. Scarlett Johansson is amazing in it. If you're patient with the movie it will definitely pay off (though everyone else said they were intrigued the whole time and I was probably the only one who got bored for a minute). Saw the Homesman when I was in Paris and its super good too.

9.5 for Under the Skin, maybe 10, the visuals are amazing and the whole subject is interesting.
