Time to line the babies up at the gas station to get a real job for a while. I was pro players at the start of all of this but I hope the union gets blown to bits and a whole whack of players lose their jobs.

It's one thing for the union to come out and say that they are close and optimistic and just waiting to iron out the details. But for the NHL to vehemently contradict this with such anger is another thing. Bettman and Daly stated that the players understood it was a take it or leave it deal and then the players submit a Chinese menu of a deal without discussing it is not a great way to negotiate. We all know this from our fantasy trades. To say that they are no where close with no semblance of nearing a deal is not good news for the fans.

The anger I saw from Bettman only made me think of him swinging at Fehr only to have Fehr holding his head out of arms reach.

Seems like some of these differences affect so few players right now that the masses that aren't in the bargaining section will start to step up. Could get ugly within the NHLPA soon.

    To me, these are facts:

The owners have an inelastic product in their hands (hockey).
They are creating a scarce in order to obtain what they want.
The owners are currently saving operating costs.
Truncated season is benefical to all NHL franchise (the poor do not lose any money and the rich do not retribute what they've earned, while the poor and the rich are NOT losing their supply - the fans).
Shortened schedule will generate an enhanced buzz on its market.
The owners have done their homework and know precisely how many games (if any) needs to be played to limit the numbers of teams that would generate losses on a 82-game-long season.

It's all just a precalculated set-up on the owners part: on an 82-game schedule, they need X. Condense the 82-game and they now need X-. Shrink schedule to 60 and they're willing to accept X---. Shrink schedule to minimal schedule and X------ can now be accepted. Season cancel and league will accept anything from X- to X---.

    The PA's a puppet to Bettman's plan...That's the way I see it.

Don Fehr is and always was the problem. He's leading the naive cattle to their death.

You can't push Bettman's Buttons forever. The players can't bite the hand that feeds you either.

I don't give a damn who's fault it really is, this has to stop. The game is already irreparably harmed. They're clearly doing their best to make sure it returns to a league of six as fast as they can. The game will not ever fully recover from another lost season in the states, period.

Last night I dreamt the lockout ended.

Of course, I also dreamt I was being stalked by a rabid unicorn all through lower Manhattan during a snowstorm.

A text from Ryan Miller to a local Buffalo reporter, Adam Benigni

"Too bad. The league will make it seem like nothing was accomplished, but we got closer to a deal. If they blow it up, I guess we have to find another way. We worked hard and moved in a fashion that would indicate that they could move and get a deal done. They just want surrender on all issues."

Is the difference between 5% annual contract variance and 25% high year/low year variance REALLY that different that we need to blow things up? 5 year contracts vs 8? 10 year CBA vs 8? Are we all really so entrenched that neither side will allow the other's offer to be the one that "does it"?

I can't make sense of this shit anymore, what the hell is either side fighting for anymore?

They're all going about this the wrong way. Quibbling over a percent is silly and misses the bigger picture Both sides should be discussing ways to generate MORE revenue. 50% of ten billion would be far more appealing to all than 57% five billion. Their shortsighted focus on their respective self interests is having the opposite effect, ironically.

    Pride goeth before the fall.
