My submission can be made in three words (if you exclude this cheesy intro). If not its still only fifty-one words, so that is pretty good word economy.

    Hextall hammers Chelios.

    That is all.

Well I added "that is all", so its actually six words (fifty-one for the strict rule followers).

Marty "Fatso" Brodeur is the best of all time. He holds all of the major records, including the all important, yet not televised event of the all-star skills competition, the cupcake eating contest 15 years in a row.

Dominik Hasek, he changed the position forever because of his style.

Before him, there was no such thing as a goalie with that kind of athleticism. He did whatever he needed to do to make a save and I'll always remember watching him play with the Buffalo Sabres as a kid. The way he played, he reacted to everything that was going on in front of him. He hardly ever stood still, his anticipation was remarkable and he was fearless. Anytime there was a guy coming in on him, you knew Hasek had a chance to stop him because of his ability.

I loved how he only wore a cage, that was his style and he'll always be known for it.

Steve Yzerman was my favourite player growing up and that's why I'm a Red Wings fan, but I'll never forget when Hasek helped lead us to the Stanley Cup in 2002. He was incredible during that playoff run and became the first European goalie in the history of the National Hockey League to win a Stanley Cup.

Look at all the European goalies in the NHL today, Miikka Kiprusoff, Henrik Lundqvist, Niklas Backstrom, Kari Lehtonen, Pekka Rinne, Tuukka Rask, Antti Niemi, Tomas Vokoun, Michal Neuvirth, Semyon Varlamov, Evgeni Nabokov, Jaroslav Halak and many more. You better believe that they idolized the Dominator growing up; he was a huge influence on the NHL.

Some say Patrick Roy, others say Martin Brodeur, but for me it will always be Dominik Hasek.

    Canada's Bogeyman

Drafted very late, as legends often are,
Chicago had no clue, they had a future star.

Maybe that is why, they traded him away,
For one Stephan Beauregard, and one Eric Daze.

He quickly became the starter, replacing coked out Fuhr.
It was obvious to all, a franchise goalie was here.

    Up front there was Peca, Lafontaine and the nameless rest;
But in goal is where the Sabres shone, it's where they had the best.

Ted Nolan came in to coach the team, he won at the awards show,
But the goalie couldn't stand him, so Nolan had to go.

In ninety-nine the Sabres went deep, so close to the cup.
But cheating Hull scored in the crease and the window to win was shut.

Tired of doing everything, all on his own,
The goalie went to Detroit, and made it his home.

Stevie Y and Nick Lidstrom, truly an all star team!
Assembled with a budget Darcy Regier would never see.

Finally the cup was his, carried over his head,
Later he'd steal Cujo's job, and his career would soon be dead.

Six Vezinas and two Harts, just some window dressing,
The reason he is the best can be a bit depressing.

The year was ninety-eight, NHLers in Nagano,
Team Canada the favourite, all ready to go.

Staying up to watch the game, who could possibly sleep?
Hasek is our bogeyman, he made the nation (and Wayne) weep.

The greatest goalie of all time is one you barely know. He started as a forward and was too small. He loved playing hockey but hated getting crushed in the corners so he talked to his father and asked if he could try playing goalie. His dad, knowing his passion for the game decided he would support his sons choice and go out and buy him some goalie gear. In his first year, he was afraid of the puck and really didn’t do very well. He also upset his father because in the first year, he had already outgrown all the new goalie gear. Never again, said his father. Used gear it was from their on out. His second year saw a huge improvement in his play. His fear of the puck was gone. He was confident, brave and even daring. He would soon play on rep hockey teams working his way up through his minor hockey career. He would go on to star for his high school hockey team, winning provincial championships and was named to many All Star Teams. After high school, he knew he was good, but not good enough to really go any further in his hockey career so he went on to star in his local beer league for many years. You see, the greatest goalie you barely know is me. Sure, I didn’t make it to the NHL, but in my mind I am the greatest goalie of all time. My stats don’t lie.

LOL! Indeed. I will let you rhyme and scheme on this one. I will take the road less travelled and try something different.

    Good luck to all.

    Good luck to everyone!
