Default First H2H draft! Rate my team.

    Hi,

It's our first year in a 10 teams H2H league (Fantasy points). Points are like this :
    Wins (5), Shutout (5), Goal against (-1), Save (0.1)
    Goal (3), Assist (2), +/- (1), Penalty minutes (0.5).

    We start 3 LW, 3 RW, 3 C, 5 D and 2 G a week. We have 4 bench players.

    Here is my team :
    LW : Landeskog, Dupuis, Heatley(RW)
    C : Marchand(LW), Briere(RW), Ott(LW)
    RW : Perry, Brown(LW), Selanne
D : Letang, Byfuglien, Boyle, Green, Carlson
    G : Rinne, Rask
Bench : Brodeur (G), Elliott (D), Stepan (C), Horton (RW)

What do you think about my team. I looove my defense and goalies, but LW needs work I think. I think also I have the best defense in entire league.
    22 teams keeper, points only (13th year) (Team, top-1 G, top-3 D, top-10 F)

    Team : LA

    G: Rask, Lack
D: Letang, Goligoski, Elliott, Orlov, Niskanen

F: PKane, Parise, Plekanec, MaxPac, Okposo, Stepan, Frolik, JWard, Perreault, Bickell, Boyes, Bowman,Wolski, Burmistrov, Filatov, Omark, Strome, Thomas, Stone, Dr Shore, Smith-Pelly

    Welcome to the boards!!

I think you hit the nail on the head my friend. Your defense is phenomenal and you shouldn't have a problem in net with two potential top 5 goalies. I worry about your depth on offense as a whole though, not just LW. Centre is the deepest position and has a ton of talent available, but I wouldn't put any of your's in my top 20...maybe even top 25.

You need to focus on dealing some D for some more scoring. Shouldn't be an issue with your D depth.

D is very good (similar to my own in a 10 team league). Goalies are very good as well with high points for wins and SHO.

I agree with HockeyRobot about not having enough elite scorers. Maybe Perry, but the rest are 60+ pt guys, and you don't count hits so Ott, Brown, Landeskog lose value.

We don't count hits, but we count penalty minutes (0.5 pt for each minute), so Perry's value was really high. Ott, Brown, Landeskog also are good.

I agree Perry and Ott get many pims, but Brown and Landeskog each only got 53 and 51 pims last year.

Did ok in goal, did ok at defense. You need help up front. The team lacks a solid scoring punch up front. In a 10 team league this is mandatory to correct.

Thanks for the insight. I was already looking into a trade to improve my offense. I will work on that

This is a H2H points league, so as long as you are producing based on the scoring values, it doesn't matter where it comes from. The heavy emphasis on PIM does inflate guys like Ott significantly.

Just to give everyone a sense of player value in this league, here are some random comparisons based on the scoring format. I am giving season totals but I am aware that in a H2H league it's all about weekly consistency.

    Neal 251 (80 games) - 81 point season
    Giroux 235 (77 games) - 93 point season
    Sharp 218 (74 games) - 69 point season
    Marchand 212 (76 games) - 55 point season
    Perry 203 (80 games) - 60 point season
    Kopitar 199 (82 games) - 76 point season
    St. Louis 178 (77 games) - 74 point season
    Brown 174 (82 games) - 54 point season
    Ott 172 (74 games) - 39 point season
    Landeskog 171 (82 games) - 52 point season

    and check out these ones:

    Dorsett 159
    Heatley 146
    Rinaldo 135

Patthebird - your focus should be only those that help you in your scoring format. A more offensive player may not be more valuable than a more multiple category guy. As well, let's not forget +/- which is worth a point. It can be random, but there are some guys on some teams that could really help you there. This gave Brown a boost even though you don't have hits.

That being said, depending on the managers' knowledge, a more offensive player might have more perceived value, even if their actual value is not as high. Keep that in mind if you are trying to make trades. Look at the numbers closely to see who are the more valuable players in such a league. I'm not sure how this will compete compared to other teams, but you'll have a better idea once (if) the season gets going. I wouldn't make any panic moves yet, but keep an eye out on the competition and especially the FA list. You might find some hidden gems.

In a 10-team league, I'd expect this team to finish bottom 3.

Sorry, the forwards are just two weak and I don't expect Rinne to put up nearly the same season he has in the past. In a 10-team league, I truly feel that teams that late-draft good goalies like Kipper or Niemi are going to do much better at teams that reach too soon for goalies. It's also a goal-heavy league, so having elite defensemen sounds good... but most D-men don't score a lot of goals. Can't say I'm fond of this team in this scoring set-up.
