He is competitive and makes a difference when it counts. He was instrumental in leading Russia to the championship at the World Under '17 Tourney in January in Windsor. He could be in the mix for 1st overall as well.
I watched Nichushkin at those U17. He was probably the best player in the tournament (definitely had a better tournament than MacKinnon, but he was playing hurt ). Very impressive Russian. I'd be surprised to see him go top 2 but I guess we never know. Lots of hockey and viewings left

At this point it's getting tough to justify MacKinnon over Drouin. I think he made the right call.

I heard him last night on NHLN extolling the virtues of Seth Jones as his #1. Pleasantly surprised, I was.

EDIT: oh...and really gushed over Fucale too. A name with which I am unfamiliar.

Anthony Mantha is one of the most NHL ready forward prospect in this draft. He missed the cut for last year draft by one day, and he is already built like a man.

He's got an absolutely great hockey mind and a wicked shot. I would love to see him on the Habs. I'm not a big fan of comparing players but Mantha reminds me a lot of Sean Couturier (Coots defensive game was more advanced though)

I like Fucale a lot and have watched him plenty in Halifax. Good goaltender....yes but phenomenal.....nope. I just don't see elite talent there. He's very smart and economical in his movements and he's got an icecold demeanor but he hasn't dominated the way I'd need a goalie to in order to call him phenomenal.

Sure his W-L record is insane but his team is out of this world.

I think he's worthy of mid to late 1st round consideration

I came to say the same thing. "Phenomenal" is not exactly the most accurate description. In all honestly, I am not sure I would draft a goaltender in the first round this year. Fucale is good but I don't see that "elite" goaltender status at this point in time like we did in Vasilevski and Subban last year. With the depth of first round skaters, I think Fucale would make a suitable mid-late first/early second (unless a team has multiple 1sts....ahem, Columbus). I think playing on a stacked Mooseheads' team probably hurts him more than it helps him this year.

Eric Comrie, Spencer Martin and Tristan Jarry seem to have as much upside as Fucale so I wouldn't be able to justify an early first round pick on him if you can land one of the others in the second round.

Is this the year to stock pile some first and second round picks? For example in a 16 team league with 2 first round and 2 second round picks, you would be able to get 4 out of the top 32 players taken.

Any one else loading up on picks for this up coming draft?

I think this draft is very deep much like the 2010 draft. I'd be loading up on picks.

I personally don't see the reason to go overly gung-ho for picks. The draft pool is deeper but the same problems as usual are there: bust potential, development time, limited roster space, etc. At the right price by all means stock up but don't go out of your way to chase unproven assets.
