I thought it had been revealed at one point in Season 2 that the current survivors were simply immune to the zombie virus; hence they survived the outbreak when everyone else died? I think it was made more of a genetics issue, as it has been in other movies as well.
No it just came out that they all have it and it just hasn't "manifested" is the best I can put it. So when ***SPOILER**** Shane gets killed he becomes one in minutes even though he wasn't bitten or anything.

The ratio of show to commercials is starting to get to me though - I think there was one point where there was only 6 minutes of show in between ads.
Ya I rarely watch it live and I found them VERY annoying.
