    Default Who would you take?

    Hey all,
Draft is Saturday and these goalies are available, some are surprising. I have 3 picks in the first round, and could get one of these guys fore sure, probably 2. I think future goalie depth is something I need to address. Team below in sig

    Dubnyk
    Bobrovsky
    Reimer
    Neuvirth
    Bachman
    Scrivens
    Mason.
I am thinking Dubnyk and hope for the best with a young team or do a Reimer, Scrivens duo and see what flushes out.
    Rep for help.
    Thanks

Absolutely Dubnyk, both because of his talent and his being the goalie of the future on a team that could be very, very good in the next couple of years as its core of future superstar players matures.

The rest all have concerns. Several play for bad teams (Toronto, Columbus), and that is a big issue in a league like yours that actually penalizes goalie losses. The others (Neuvirth, Bachman) don't have a clear path to becoming a guaranteed starter, although at least Neuvirth is in the mix.

I think Dubnyk is worth grabbing, but none of the others striks me as a worthwhile pick in round 1. But perhaps even Neuvirth could be a consideration since you have two essentially useless goalies on your roster in Nittymaki and Roloson. It depends on whether anyone else you can draft provide you with better overall value or fills a more pressing need.

    Thanks guys,
Roloson and Niitymaki will beboth dropped after the draft, just my team from last year.
I think your right though, I'll grab Dubnyk if I can, depends on how it al rolls out.
    Appreciate the help.

Definitely dubnyk: solid you goalie likely to cement the #1 gig on a burgeoning team filled with offensive studs.

I would probably recommend Neuvirth as the second option, though not worthy of a first rounder. I believe he has the upper hand in Wash, despite holtby's standout playoff performance. He's got much more NHL experience than holtby and if he can get the #1 job locked up then his value could be über-high.

    Cheers

I wouldn't use a first round pick on a goalie in a weekly starts league with only 2 goalie slots to be competitive this season. I might grab Dubnyk for trade value, but I would be much more interested in fleshing out your D and F starters first - you are covered in goal.

While I agree with Dubnyk. This year (whenever this year starts) is his time to prove he can thrive as the #1, and I think Reimer is in the same boat, if you're looking for depth, I would consider Bachman. He's the clear cut #2 behind the oft injured Lehtonen. He may have to bide his time, but to many factors favor him assuming the starting gig sooner than later.

I'm not as sold on Neurvirth. While Washington MAY be the better team, who knows what's going to happen with the tandum there. When is the last time they had a clear cut #1? Theodore? Varly? Vokoun? Neurvirth? and now Holtby? I'd sit back and watch this play out before considering Neurv.

I think Bachman is your #1 Sleeper depth pick.

With Miller and Bryzgaloz as your starters I dont thik you really need to take a goalie with your first round picks. I dont know who is available but I would pick up a scorer or two if you can. I would only take Dubnyk if you want to hold on to him until he passes Miller or Bryzgaloz as one of your starters.

Dubnyk is the best of the bunch, but like others have said, not sure I'd use a 1st rounder on him.

    I disagree.

It's a weekly start league... and I don't really see a need for you to invest in a 3rd goalie. When would you ever start one of those guys over Miller/Bryz... maybe if injured.

IDK, I'd be taking a skater here.

If you are dead-set on taking a goalie, go Dubnyk.
Future in Edmonton is looking good.

If you are looking to address "goalie future" as in addressing a problem 4-5 years in advance, then you are over-complicating matters. Plenty of time to find your solution through other means at a different time.

Thanks for all your help guys. I have 3 first round picks. Our league requires at least one dangle goalie for our draft that has played at least one game the previous year. I have heard and read all the advice, and it has given me a ton to think about for sure. I have 4 picks in he top 20, and 5 in the top 40. I know I'll get lots to help my team.
    Appreciate the help.
Good Luck to all with your own drafts.
