Niemi for me boss.
Antti Niemi
Craig Anderson
Is it Week Three in the Cage Match Tournament already? I suppose it is. Not that time is really flying all that much with the current lockout still raging harder than a fear boner. And if you didn't get that reference I just can't imagine what you've been doing with your life. But alas, Week Three it is and we have the opening round match ups in the Sawchuk Bracket.
Please vote and make your voices heard. And remember the scoring categories are Wins, GAA, Save% and Shutouts. Also, please check the article on the home page for last week's results!
The other match ups this week:
#1 Ryan Miller vs. #8 Sergei Bobrovsky
#2 Jaroslav Halak vs. #7 Jose Theodore
#3 Jimmy Howard vs. #6 Brian Elliott

Taking Niemi for sure...but I imagine this one will be closer.
I'm not a Niemi fan, but I'm even less of an Anderson fan.

Anderson
This one isn't even close IMO
The Best Fantasy Hockey Site
15-Team Keeper, points only, best 12 fwd, 4 dman, 2 G count. Playoffs count.

At least this one is closer... Niemi gets my vote though.
I would never trade Anderson for Niemi. Hell, I don't think Niemi makes it till the end of the next NHL season as a starter - Greiss will pass him.
We get one of these - Don't waste it.
Niemi. Vastly under-rated on a team with a so-so D.
I find it interesting that so many people would take Anderson over Niemi in a one-year league. I'm not really that much of a fan of Niemi's in general, but San Jose to me is a better team than Ottawa is.
Good goalies make a so-so D look good. Bad goalies make a so-so D look bad. If your league counts only wins, niemi wins going away because he is gets so many starts. If you factor in any metric that actually measures how good a goalie actually is such as Sv% or GAA, this one is EASILY Anderson. And this is definitely not the closest matchup this week has to offer.

G - Rask, Schneider, Rinne
Because Niemi sucks. He flat out sucks as a goalie. Niemi is going to get more wins because the team that he plays on is going to score more and get more wins but he is going to lack in Sv% and GAA. SO is a crapshoot as it is only going to come into play 5 weeks out of a 23 week season so you go with the goalie that is more likely to get you 2 of the 3 regular stats.

^^^ Completely agree ^^^
Yes, Niemi is probly considered a so-so goalie, but he doesnt really put up so-so numbers (let alone crap shoot ones as some of u are suggesting).
Yes, hes on a very good team, a team which underachieved last yr significantly, a team which bolstered its defence this yr by adding Brad Stuart, a team which is likely to do MUCH BETTER next season (or this season...)
Ottawa overachieved last yr, yet Niemi still had better G.A.A and SV% and more SO's. Even if Ottawa makes the playoffs next yr (which they likely wont with an improved CAR team, TB team, and WSH team which i think they will finish behind, in addition to BOS, BUF, PHI, PIT, NYR, NJ which is 9 teams...) they will likely barely squeek in.
Anderson loses for me on wins for sure, G.A.A for sure, and likely SO. SV% to me is a toss up.

Just wanted to quote this again. As a comparison Anderson was 2.83/.914 last year.
I don't understand the hate-on so many people have for Niemi.....he's been a very good goalie to own in fantasy leagues. I like Anderson and this was a tough matchup, but in a one-year league it's Niemi for me.

Quite surprised that Anderson's winning this one.
Who's better in terms of raw talent is debatable, but Niemi is definitely in a better environment.
