According to reports they're beginning to open discussion with Eberle on an extension.

They'll be smart if they can get these kids to sign for cheap now for long-term between 4-6 years.

The Oilers have a good 3-5 year window to keep the young core of players together very easily. I'm talking RNH, Hall, Yaks, Eberle, Shultz, and even Dubnyk. Other than Horcoff who is UFA in 3 years there are no other bad, long term contracts hindering them.

Any guesses on the deals for Hall and Eberle? Jeff Skinner’s contract $5.75 for 6 years is a starting point for me if I am their agent.

And the Oilers will counter with what Tavares' contract looks like. But a 5M for 5 year scenerio would be in the ballpark.

If that's the starting point I hope Tambs just goes and signs the deal right there.

People seriously need to stop with this. I'm tired of pointing out the several teams that possess more, even larger contracts than Edmonton ever will in the foreseeable future. SJS alone has marleau, thornton, Boyle tying up almost $21M, more than ebs/hall/rnh will combine for for a long time. Not to mention havlat, pavelski, burns, niemi accounting for another near $20M.

Your precious rangers have $23M tied up in gabby, Richards, and nash - that's enough to sign hall, ebs, rnh, and yak to long term deals just under 6 a piece.

So yea, let's stop saying oilers are going to be screwed capwise when they have plenty of space, a ton more coming off the books (Bhulin, Horcs) and when there are several teams in the league that has multiple hefty contracts (PIT, PHI, WSH, NYR, SJS, TBL, DET, BUF, etc) - hell most teams in the league carry 4-5+ big contracts and the only big contracts on the oil right now are Bhulin, Horcs, hemsky and all expire before or around te same time extensions on the kids need to be signed.

Yea, the oilers are clearly going to be in cap hell

This was going to be close to my estimate. Rumors that I have read/heard over the past few weeks have him signing long term for somewhere in the 6m/yr range.

I am going to expect similar numbers for Ebs.

Welcome to the world us Pens fans had been living since drafting Jordan Staal. Everyone kept telling Pens couldn't afford to keep Crosby, Malkin and Staal (along with Fleury, Letang and whomever else). Well Staal got traded but not because of cap reasons. Pens could have easily afforded to keep him as evidenced by the contract offer they gave him. He just outgrew of his role and wanted more offensive responsibility and that's also the reason why Oilers might have to move one their top guys in the future. Not because of cap reasons but because one of them might be pushed to secondary role and may not be overly happy about it. Though keeping 3 wingers and 1 center happy is a bit more easily done than with 3 centers, I guess. That is if you roll with 4 forwards in top PP. Also none of Oilers' guys have brothers playing in NHL so there's that too.

.....probable 5 yrs 6 per for both Ebs and Hall. Hopefully it is 6-7yrs 6 per. If all the kids can sign for roughly the same $/length, it should work out...unless one of them gets greedy, but I think they all know a good thing when they see it. They will do what it takes to keep them together......I hope!!!

in what world does Hall deserve $6 million? That will be a crippling contract when he's on the IR every year.
