I'm curious as to what the consensus is here on how soon he'll be ready for NHL action. I know it depends on where he's drafted, but based on his talent, what window are we looking at and what is his actual upside?

Well, I see in some mock drafts, people have him before Grigorenko and others where Grigs is ahead. So how close are these two?

I have no idea and am soooo confused about this draft class. All I know is Yakupov is the clear cut #1 for points only fantasy leagues. But then who??? I don't even know who Forsberg is??

He's generally in the top 5 forwards for this draft. It's usually Yakupov, Grigorenko, Galchenyuk, and Forsberg I see often in the top 5. I'm trying to gauge whether someone like Forsberg could be better than Grigorenko or Galchenyuk, etc.

I'd be willing to bet a decent amount that he goes top 6, most likely top 5, and has a shot at going 2nd IMO.

    And no, Galch/Grig > Forsberg

Forsberg is viewed higher in most rankings because the concensus is that he comes with a little more certainty (albeit with much less upside). There are a few agencies that have dropped him a bit (5-7 range) and its mostly because they question his vision.

I read somewhere that he's compared to an Erik Cole type of player and I'd have a tough time picking him top 5 if that is accurate. PS - I see much more upside than Erik Cole. For me, he's a step behind Galchenyuk and Grigorenko in terms of skill but because he is a "safe pick", he's probably slightly ahead of Grigorenko at the moment.

From watching him play, I think this kid is going to be a star in the NHL. Give him a couple of years and a team that can help him in his develop and then you will see just how good he will be.

Forsberg is basically a Zibanejad type player, so he probably doesn't have the greatest offensive upside. Personally, not sure if he's the clear cut best Swedish forward in this draft. He leaves you wanting more.

I see him as a solid 2nd line winger with 65-70 pt upside in the NHL. However, even if he doesn't reach his offensive upside, he gives you a solid player who will contribute in all three zones. That is why he is a "safe" pick compared to Grigorenko. I don't know why people don't think Galchenyuk is also a safe pick. To me, the kid competes, has the offensive upside, and has pretty much lived in NA his whole life. I don't see him fleeing to the KHL. I actually don't think Grigorenko will either, and with his upside I wouldn't hesitate to take him over Forsberg (both in the NHL and in fantasy hockey), but I can see why some might feel differently.

I see Forsberg having 70-80 point upside in his prime, he'll be a valuable player in the NHL. As I see it, he'll spend one more year in Sweden after being drafted, then probably have some time in the AHL until he's NHL ready. The skills aren't an issue with him IMO, its his overall game he needs to work on.

I share the same opinion as SeaDawg. Offensively, I'd compare his upside to Mikko Koivu (not style wise).

I also think its crazy not to consider Galchenyuk a safe pick. I understand that his knee injury iand associated loss of development time is the reason for the risk but that wouldn't stop me. Hell, if I'm Edmonton I'd heavily consider Galchenyuk at 1st. It would take some balls to actually commit to Galchenyuk at #1 but after watching him play on the same rink as Yakupov, I often left more impressed with Galchenyuk

I will put my neck out and say that AG will be a better NHLer

The thing that sucks with Forsberg is that he has not yet had experience in the SEL and will not have next year either. Every other top swede will be playing SEL. Generally you do not see many top NHL draft picks who are playing in the Allsvenskan although there are definitely exceptions like OEL...it's still a decent league but I think that will add to him dropping a bit in the draft. Kinda like Berglund a bit who is also a guy who leaves you wanting more. I also can't ever see Forsberg in the AHL so next year might not be seen as the best thing development wise for NHL teams

Galchenyuk is easily going to be the better player, I agree with you there.
