Here are a few additional notes:

*Brett Connolly saw plenty of top six time last night, including some with Marty and Vinny. He didn't really seem out of place offensively, but that's never been the complaint of the coaching staff.

*Victor Hedman coughed up the puck to a wide open Buffalo player with about 30 seconds remaining in the game. The result was a slapper off the crossbar. Ironically, Hedman was pretty good except for that huge error.

*Garon and Miller were both sharp, plus each team saw shooters fail to cash in on critical chances from in the deep slot.

*MAB is out again and could miss several more games. Both because he's still injured and because he's not any good on defense...

Appreciate the update, thanks! Mathieu Garon will likely face Brent Johnson, not Marc-Andre Fleury tonight.

The Senators broke their slump against Tampa tonight and cruised to a 4-0 win over the Lightning. Craig Anderson and Jason Spezza are the only reasons Ottawa won the game. Spezza had a had trick and an assist, while Anderson stopped 28 shots for the shutout. Tampa actually had more shots than the Sens, but Anderson was unbeatable. Full game summary is below.

    1st period
-Erik Karlsson lights the lamp on his 10th of the year, assisted by Spezza and Bobby Butler.

    2nd period
-Spezza scores his 23rd on a tip-in, assisted by Filip Kuba and Karlsson.

    3rd period
-Spezza gets his second of the night and 24th on the year, assisted by Butler and Milan Michalek
-Spezza completes the hat trick with an empty netter, his 25th of the year. The lone assist goes to Sergei Gonchar.

Next up: The Lightning will be in tough as they host the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.

Despite winning tonight's game, the trades of Moore and Kubina are utter necessities. Why? Because the farm system is in shambles. The forward prospects are arguably ok, with Panik, Ashton, Conacher and Connolly, but we have jack squat in terms of goaltending and d prospects.

Tokarski hasn't shown the progression they had hoped and appears to still be a long way off. The best D prospect we have is Barberio and the depth is a mess too. Picking up a second rounder and potentially a couple good prospects is a requirement at this point. The drafting in the last few years, outside of Stammer and Hedman, has been particularly questionable.

It sucks but it's time to take our medicine and move on.

Tampa walked away with a very impressive win, outscoring the Sharks and taking the game 6-5 in overtime. Backup goalie Dwayne Roloson was peppered with 50 shots on net by the Sharks, but the Lightning still prevailed despite having just 25 shots on Sharks goalie Antti Niemi. The Lightning traded Moore and are supposedly going to trade defenceman Pavel Kubina. These aren't big parts of their team, but it gives you the idea that they may be sellers at the trade deadline. They have gained some points recently and are now eight points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The full game recap is below.

    1st period
-Logan Couture finishes off his 24th, assists go to Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau.
-Steven Stamkos collects his 38th, assisted by Brendan Mikkelson and Steve Downie.
-Teddy Purcell gives Tampa the lead on his 14th, assisted by Mikkelson and Stamkos.

    2nd period
-Michal Handzus puts in his 14th, assisted by Jamie McGinn and Torey Mitchell.
-Downie pots his 12th, assisted by Eric Brewer and Victor Hedman.
-Marc-Edouard Vlasic gets his 4th, assisted by Tommy Wingels and Dan Boyle.
-Colin White score his first of the year, assisted by McGinn and Mitchell.

    3rd period
-Stamkos gets his second of the game and 39th on the year, assisted by Hedman and Ryan Malone.
-Martin St. Louis scores his 17th, assisted by Vincent Lecavalier and Purcell.
-Wingels scores his second of the game and 2nd of the year, assisted by Couture and Boyle.

    Overtime
-Tampa completes the comeback with Martin St. Louis' overtime winner, his second of the game and 18th on the year. The assists go to Hedman and Stamkos.

Next up: The Lightning host the Washington Capitals on Saturday night. A win would be huge to say the least.

Tampa has won two in a row, after they defeated the Capitals 2-1 tonight. The game was very close, the Lightning had 23 shots on Tomas Vokoun, while the Capitals fired 24 at Mathieu Garon. The difference was Steven Stamkos, who scored his 40th of the season and continues to make a joke of the NHL goal scoring race. Who's in second place? Evgeni Malkin with 23 goals. This kid is special and they'll need him to keep producing in order to make the playoffs. Toronto lost to Vancouver tonight and that means the Bolts are now just six points back of eight spot. Full game summary is below.

    1st period
Tom Pyatt scores his sixth of the season, assisted by Teddy Purcell.

    2nd period
Stamkos scores his 40th of the year, the goal was unnassisted.

    3rd period
Brooks Laich gets his 11th, assisted by Mathieu Perreault and Alex Semin.

Next up: Tampa Bay hosts the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, another team desperate for points in their playoff push.

Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman was active on the trade front yesterday. The Bolts sent agitator Steve Downie to the Colorado Avalanche for Kyle Quincey. They weren't done there though, Quincey was then shipped to the Detroit Red Wings for Detroit's 2012 first round pick and prospect Sebastien Piche.

I like what Yzerman is doing. He's stockpiling to make a big splash this offseason.

A huge win tonight for the Bolts, defeating the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 at home. Tampa is now just five points out of the 8th playoff spot in the East. Steven Stamkos continued his hot streak and Mathieu Garon stopped 28 shots to seal the win. Full game summary is below.

A tough loss for the Lightning last night, falling 4-3 to the Winnipeg Jets. Blake Wheeler continues to be red hot for the Jets, as he had two points and captain Andrew Ladd had three points and Dustin Byfuglien had three points as well. Steven Stamkos continues to be one of the hottest players in the league, he had a goal and two assists and so did Teddy Purcell. The Lightning did score three goals, but it was too little too late and they'll need to spread out their scoring if they want to make the playoffs.

    1st period
-The Jets take the lead on Ladd's 20th of the year, assisted by Bryan Little and Wheeler.
-Tanner Glass puts Winnipeg up 2-0 on his 5th, assisted by Chris Thorburn and Mark Flood.

    2nd period
-Andrew Ladd gets his 2nd of the game and 21st, assisted by Evander Kane and Byfuglien.
-Byfuglien gives the Jets a 4-0 lead on his 10th, assisted by Wheeler and Ladd.

    3rd period
-Stamkos scores his 43rd and pads his league leading goal total, assisted by Ryan Malone and Purcell.
-Purcell snipes his 16th, assisted by Stamkos.
-Martin St. Louis scores his 26th, assisted by Stamkos and Purcell.

Next up: The Lightning visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, currently six points out of eight spot in the Eastern Conference, which was reclaimed by the Jets last night.
