    Fleury update 12/27/2015

Forgot to post this yesterday. Fleury has returned to the ice but no timetable yet for him to resume playing. Nice to see the concussion symptoms subsiding. Hopefully the symptoms won't return as he gets up to game speed.

Would love to see that top line stick as I'm holding onto Horny on the faint glimmer of hope that he picks things up.

Bonino and Kessel have looked pretty good together. Maybe they keep the line together and have 1 line with Crosby, 1 line with Malkin, and 1 line with Kessel

I bet they only run those lines at the end of periods and at the end of tight games like Sunday's when they need a on offensive push. Every coach including Sullivan have kept Crosby and Malkin apart for the most part so that the offense can be better distributed. Rangerfan2430's right about

Sullivan is on record saying exactly that, three lines Crosby, Malkin and Kessel. I'll see if I can dig up what Sullivan said.

    Edit: Here it is
“If (Kessel) was to play with Nick, and when Sid comes back, we end up with (Kessel, Crosby and Malkin) on three separate lines. That's going to be hard to check all three of them. I think maybe that balance might present a bigger challenge for our opponents.”

If only we could see a Malkin, Crosby, Kessel line put on the ice all the time

They are but only on the power play

I understand where you are coming from though. It's a fantasy owner's wet dream having some of all of those pieces. Sadly it won't happen though.

I wish they'd try it more often…anything to get Crosby going

Default A Look At: Conor Sheary

A Local newspaper profile on Conor Sheary after being called up from the Baby Pens

It didn’t take long for Conor Sheary to earn his wings with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Melrose native and former Cushing Academy star made his National Hockey League debut last week, facing off against the Boston Bruins, Dec. 16 at the TD Garden.
Sheary was the leading scorer with the Penguins AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at the time of the recall. The winger had 20 goals, 25 assists and 45 points at the time of his promotion, Dec. 15. He got the good news following his team’s morning skate, jetting off to Boston moments later.
A slick skating 5-foot-8, 175-pound left winger, Sheary gives the Penguins a nice burst of speed up front. His dogged determination and hustle are two other traits that should go a long way in paving his NHL career.
According to Pittsburgh Penguin Head Coach Mike Sullivan, Sheary didn’t look out of place in his debut.
“I thought he was terrific,” said Sullivan. “I thought he was on the puck. He was quick. He forced turnovers. He was skating. I thought he brought us some juice."

Default Injury Ward: Letang & Fleury

Letang and Fleury back at practice.

No word yet on how long or how much.

    http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/p...s/201512290142

Was able to dig this up on Fleury, from yesterday.

Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, who has missed the Penguins’ past six games because of a concussion, is getting better, coach Mike Sullivan said.

Sullivan is not, however, prepared to predict when Fleury will be well enough to play again.

“He’s still day-to-day at this point,” Sullivan said. “He’s making progress. He did not skate [Sunday]. He had an off-ice workout. Everything went well.

“It’s probably his most positive day, to this point. He’s going to go on the ice again [today] and we’ll see how he responds to an on-ice workout.

“The only thing I can say definitively is that he’s making progress.”

Sullivan said Fleury has been on the ice three times in the past week “and each time, he’s less and less symptomatic.”

Per Axeman's post in the Fleury injury thread:
Coach Sullivan on Fleury: "There is no timetable yet on him. He took shots today. It's progress."

    Default Postgame: Toronto @ Pittsburgh

    Toronto 3 Pittsburgh 2 (SO)

Both teams defense played a little sloppy. Still a great game to watch as a fan though. Both goaltenders were superb. Murray was the only reason why the score was close. He made big saves in both the second and third periods.

Crosby had his third multi-point game in his last five. 2G and 5A over that stretch.

Things got a little chippy fifteen minutes into the first after Komarov boarded Letang. The refs kept control and things settled down a little into the second. Letang was forced to leave the ice for concussion evaluation but quickly returned.

Morning skate lines were intact to start the game. The top-6 was all over the place in the third period with Sheary dropping down to L3 and Kessel moving up. Pick a line combo and Sullivan tried it.

Kessel had quite a few chances, even with Bonino as his center. Kessel is killing me in my salary cap keeper, at $8M, I expect him to perform. I'll give him some more rope because the moment I trade him, he finds some chemistry with Crosby, no doubt.

He'll break out soon. I think the whole Penguins team will start scoring a lot soon

    Default Gameday: Pittsburgh @ Detroit

    Early game start 6PM tonight.

No morning skate due to a travel day so lineups won't be known until warmups.

Zatkoff is expected to start since Murray started last night.

Clendening was sent down to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a conditioning assignment.
