Studs & Duds - Sunday 3/24
The other New York goalie - New York Islander goalie Evgeni Nabokov is living proof that there are indeed two good goalies living the dream in New York. Despite being 94 years old Nabokov was able to shut out the NHL’s worst team in the Florida Panthers 3-0. Nabokov made 26 saves for his 3rd SO of the season and 55th for his career moving him up to 18th place all-time.
Alexander the Great? – Had we giving up on Alexander Ovechkin a little too early? That may be the case as Crosby’s nemesis had a 1G and 1A last night in a 3-2 SO win over the New York Rangers. Ovechkin who also scored in the Shoot Out and had 5 shots and 5 hits in the game. He now has 11 points in his last 7 games.
The Roman Empire – Calgary Flame forward Roman Cervenka had his best game as a Flame last night by scoring his 4th and 5th goals of the season. Cervenka has had a hard time adjusting to the NHL after coming over from the KHL during the off-seas had been a healthy scratch in 3 out 5 previous games hopes to finally stay in the lineup and play alongside fellow country man Jiri Hudler.
The Little train that could – Bryan Little fired up the engine and steam rolled his team the Winnipeg Jets to victory with 1G and 2A in the 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Little was also dynamite in the face-off circle going 19-8.
Is he still injured? – Many fantasy hockey poolies are beginning to wonder if Philadelphia Flyer Scott Hartnell is still injured. Hartnell has not been himself since coming back from injury and even has been benched. In 12 games since returning from his injury Hartnell has only 2G and 2A including last night’s game where Hartnell just no points and just 1 hit and 1 shot.
No Music City Miracle here - Coming off a shut out the night before Jaroslav Halak had the worst goalie numbers on the night giving up 3 goals on just 17 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Calgary Flames including a bad goal to Jarome Iginla late in the 3rd period that turned out to be the winning goal.
