end of week goalie predicament, rep like always

Down to the final day in this weeks H2H matchup.

My stats: 4 wins / 1.36 GAA / .952 SV%, 1 SHO
Opponent: 2 wins / 1.76 GAA / .944 SV%, 1 SHO

He is playing Luongo tomorrow night against the Blues (Luongo is confirmed to play)

I can either:
Play Lundqvist vs Washington
Play Fleury vs Buffalo
Play Neither (hope Luongo lets in at least 1 goal and does not stop more than 30~ shots)

If I bench my goalies and Luo gets a shutout I will cry, If lundqvist or fleury let in 5 goals I will also cry. Earlier in the week I never question starting my guys but its super close tomorrow and really need the goalie categories to keep the win this week!

Will rep like always!

The stakes are quite big for your pool, so I feel almost a little bit intimidated even commenting on this thread.

But if it were me, I'd go with Lundqvist vs. WSH.
He hasn't allowed 5 or more goals since the second game when it was against the very potent PIT offense.

I doubt Luongo can get a SO against STL with the way they're playing right now, with such a deep team, but stranger things happened...

Good luck!

Start Lundqvist, after all he's Lundqvist, arguably the best goalie in the league and fantasy hockey, definitely Top 3 in such categories in not number one. Rangers are playing a very poor performing Capitals team, I expect Lunqvist to come out of that game with great stats, there's no one I would be more comfortable putting in net against Luongo, than Lundqvist. The potential to win the shutout cat for the week is also very appealing, and Lundqvist gives you a very legit shot at it.

Stand Pat

Not sure I would start anyone. Washington has scored 15 goals in their last 3 games.

I would just put it on Luongo to pull this off for his squad. Your numbers will be hard to overcome, St.Louis has 9 goals in their last two and look to be turning a corner in their production.

I am not sure what to do... When I rely on Luongo he craps the bed, when I need him to drop the ball he posts shutouts on 40+ shots!

A shutout moves him 3-1 in goalie categories with would lose the week for me, fantasy hockey will be the death of me!

This is an easy call: Bench your goalies.

You can't allow yourself to worry about an unlikely situation.
The odds of Luongo getting a shutout are probably 1 in 10 anyways (10 SO every 100 starts).

But the odds of Lundqvist having a bad game and you LOSING two categories is possible.
Even Lundqvist has a bad game every four games.

If this "event" was run 100 times, you are going to win GAA/SV% probably 80-90 times if you simply bench Lundqvist.
You have to play the odds.

More importantly, the STL @ VAN game is at 9:00pm.
So your opponent gets to make a later decisison with his goalie (Luongo, assuming this is "daily starts").

NYR plays at 6pm.
If Lundqvist shits the bed, you may be losing in GAA/SV% when the VAN game starts.
He simply has to BENCH Luongo and he wins two categories.

Bench 'em.

Agreed with above. No way you should be starting anyone, period.

Pargo 02-17-2013 08:39 PM

So, did you listen to me and Essej? :P

dooley89 02-17-2013 09:19 PM

I benched everybody and my opponent didnt even play Luongo, would of liked it to at least come down to the wire lol. He usually picks his starts all the time so was very surprised and relieved he didnt!

Currently 7-2, hoping for 4ppp from the sedins, backes and shattenkirk to make it 8-1!

Nice breakdown, Pengwin.
