[Trade] Darroll Powe to Rangers

As per Russo.

Nick Palmieri also included in the deal.

Speculates that Rupp is going to Minnesota but not confirmed yet.

Rupp indeed going to Minnesota for Powe and N.Palmieri.

Is there any significance to this trade? Seems like a lateral move plus a low-end prospect.

When I first saw the heading I thought that NY was getting another BIG body untilvI saw Rupp going the other way. I'm not sure how to feel about this.

Minny wanted to add size to their lineup. Rangers... maybe they wanted to get more speed to their bottom-6? Doesn't seem like Rupp has been as good and effective with the Rangers as he was with the Penguins either.

I get it from the Rangers' side. Powe is more of a Tortorella-type even though you would think Rupp's size adds something different to the game. Getting the prospect is a decent bonus I guess.

I don't get it from Minny's perspective though.

Minnesota was beyond pathetic vs. Ducks in their last game. Clearly they wanted to done some changes after that game. And they do have quite small team. Rupp and calling up Coyle should help with that. They'll bring in some size and grit.

Palmieri isn't really a prospect anymore and he first refused to report to Minny's AHL team after the lockout. That made him an unwanted player for Minnesota.

As Carcillo said, MN needs size. Rupp will do a better job of winning battles along the boards and pinning opposing players in their own zone. Will be interesting to see who fills Powe's old PK role though.

Palmieri was basically just a thrown in because he was being a cancer (contract holdout and didn't report right away to Houston when he was sent there) and it opens a roster spot now since MN was at the 50 limit.

Edit: Yeah what Carcillo said again, posted it quicker than me. :)

Yeah I agree, they are a little undersized and that's probably exactly their motivation with the deal
