Shut the front door!
I knew they were pushing for Gay, they have been for years but I never thought they had the pieces to get it done. The one thing I will say is that in spite of all of his flaws as a GM Bryan Colangelo does know how to get a deal done. There might be some false hope that comes with this deal but Gay does give the Raptors a go-to player in crunch time, something they haven't had since Bosh.
I'm not saying Gay will be that good but he's gonna be their best crunch time scorer. The one thing that this doesn't address is Toronto's horrible outside shooting and in fact Gay basically makes DeRozan redundant since they play basically the same game just Gay is better and can take the ball to the low post so now that DeRozan re-signing looks even worse than it already did after Terrence Ross started to come on.
I can see more moves coming for this team.
The one thing this finally solidifies is Lowry as the starting point guard, which may cause issues. He's a real talent and is on a great deal and you know that Colangelo loves him considering he gave up a first round pick for him but he's butted heads with coaches every stop in his career and that includes Toronto. Lowry makes a lot of sloppy, selfish plays on both ends. He can clean it up and maybe having a guaranteed starting spot for the first time ever is what he needs but I liked having the ability to bench him to send a message. I guess time will tell if he bends to Casey or if Casey has to bend to him.
I like this move for the Raps but only if there are more moves coming because this team looks more like some weird fantasy team right now than an actual NBA team. The one thing you have to like though is that this could propel them to the playoffs.
