#Sabres GM Darcy Regier says Mikhail Grigorenko will remain on the roster and will play tonight

Good news. I know the Sabres need some scoring punch from their line 2/3 especially if Vanek is hurting. Grigorenko will be dependent on offensive wise in the future but for now, he has been defensively responsible as well. Liking his on ice vision and decision making. I think he deserves to stay w/ the big club.

Insofar as Ruff is his head coach, I agree. But he has nothing to prove in the Q.

What do you mean by this Bomm?
Is he going to get the minutes that are required for him to develop? I read something about Ruff admitting that he hadn't used Grigorenko properly.

He'd just be knocked down to lose against the Mooseheads in the playoffs again.

I lost confidence in Ruff's tactics years back. He could surprise and put Grigs on the second line for the remaining 40 games, and let him grow into a top line center. but history tells us otherwise. To guess what the lines will be on any given game night - when even Ruff isn't certain - is a fools errand.

It's like this....

Zach Kassian is playing on the top line in Vancouver, and succeeding. Now you could arguably say "Well, yeah he's playing/practicing/conditioning w/the Sedins...". But the fact is Ruff would never do something like that. Lack of patience or confidence in himself or his players is anyone's guess.

You can point to individual play (Myers, Stafford, et al), but when I look at them collectively I see a team that is no longer motivated to succeed for their coach.

Nothing wrong with keeping him around and limiting his ice time a bit. As long as he isn't being buried with 4-5 minutes a night he will be fine. He just has to be used in situations where he can benefit and gain confidence (ie let the vets play the tough minutes).

Sure, agreed. I am not suggesting he absolutely needs to play on the top line. Merely implying that doing so would never even cross Ruff's mind, such did the idea of putting him on the fourth line.
