I understand he'll be Kipper's backup this year

He was never resigned. Might be a decent move to grab him if a team needs a center. I mean its better than doing nothing if you can sign him for less than $1M.

I know he was not resigned, so he's an experienced UFA... and he did not head over seas, which is why I was wondering if anyone knew whether he decided to retire or not.
