Subban for 4 years

He supposedly signed for 4 years at 22 M...

Nice job, Mr. Bergevin!

5.25

Hard to sign him any cheaper no doubt, but might still be an overpayment if he doesn't continue to develop.

No doubt it's an over-payment right now. At least it seems like it at first glance...but Wideman's making the same soooo
Like all the contracts for these RFA's, you're paying them for what they'll become as players, not just what they've been(Tho PK's shown flashes of brilliance); and you're paying them for the role they'll play, P.K will be a #1 dman on Mtl, and that's a #1 dman salary.

ps. thought you couldn't negotiate deals til the CBA was ratified? As in tomorrow.

That deal is not done and it won't be those numbers.

John Carlson got 3.5, 4, 4, 4. Erik Karlsson got 5, 5.5, 6.5, 7.

Paying Subban above Carlsons numbers, but below Karlssons numbers, kinda split the difference is exactly where I think he should be. Very good signing money wise by the Habs in my opinion.

True. Nothing can be official or confirmed until the CBA is ratified.

4 years / 22 million is too much in the old system and definitely too much with the salary cap compression coming up. He should get closer to Carlson money.

True, we need to adjust the way we look at new contracts now.

Well people seemed to refuse to do this as the salary cap increased. I doubt it will happen now that it will decrease.

That's the thing, the cap kept rising so you could continue to push the envelope. The only times in the last 25 years that less money was made available to players is after the 2005 and 2012 lockouts when the cap ceiling was established and adjusted. Aside from that salaries have done nothing but rise from year to year.

Teams will adjust because they have to fit a team within the rules next year. After that, the rise of the cap will continue.
