Red Wings D Carlo Colaiacovo hurt shoulder during Spengler Cup. Expected 2-3 weeks, but Wings will know more after they've looked at him.

Better chances for Smith to get a roster spot right from the start. Actually now Smith should be guaranteed top-6 D-man to start the season, right?

Yeah Smith was pretty much a lock anyway.

Was he really a lock over Kindl for the 6th spot to start with? I would think that would have been decided on the camp and neither would been handed anything before it. Now with this injury they'll both be getting their chances.

Yes. Kindl has been bad and Babcock hasn't held back in criticizing him. Smith was better than Kindl in his stint last year. A LOT better.

I heard it was caused by a swift breeze that caught him as he was stepping off the team bus.
