Voynov/Josi for Marleau

A recent deal has left me with only 5 D and we need 6 min (I prefer 7).

This deal reloads my D and keeps me young, but Marleau is a legit 65-70 point guy for a few still and I am hoping to contend. Feels like too much, when I can opt for plan B....

Simply drop Alfe if no season for a waiver D and worry about it later, or if there is a season prob drop Foligno, as he is not too valuable.

Any thoughts on this one?

Nope.

In a 9F/6D league, you'll need premium defensemen in probably 4/6 spots.
But the other 2 defensemen you'll find you swap out with a hot waiver-wire player.
So there's no point in trying to obtain two waiver-wire value guys like Voynov & Josi.

If it was my team, I'd simply plug your 6th spot with a ho-hum defenseman and then swap him out when the season gets going.
Marleau has too much value in a 19-team x 9F league.

Too little for Marleau here. I'd be shopping him for a more proven 6th Dman. Josi playing alongside Weber is promising, but Voynov will always be second fiddle to DD. Could a Marleau not fetch you someone like Burns, Campbell, Streit, Goligoski...? I'm not a huge Marleau fan, and I'd shop him around for a better player...quality over quantity.

Marleau is still an awesome player to own. Not enough value for him. Don't downgrade talent unless you have to.

I agree with the rest of the guys, too little for Marleau. You are going to want to get a bonafide d-men in return for Marleau and not 2 wanna be's.

Especially in a league where goals count extra, Marleau has nice value, of which neither Josi nor Voynov will repay. If it were me, I'd roll with a young unproven d-man/rookie off the waiver wire for a little while who has a guaranteed roster spot and hope to catch lightning in a bottle (Matt Donovan? Paul Postma?), and if that doesn't pan out after a couple of weeks, grab whatever you can find off the waiver wire.

Thanks for the confirmation. I agree. I am a big voyo fan though.

Now the question becomes who to drop?

Nick Foligno or Alfe??

If we have a season id much rather keep Alfe but if not then hes done.

Whod you drop?

Spleentastic 12-07-2012 02:54 PM

Keep Alfie. I still think he can hit 60, especially if he gets time with Spezza. Foligno tops out at 45, and even in a 19 team league, that's a hair above replacement level, point being that even if Alfie flops or gets hurt, Foligno or someone similar should be available (Brooks Laich? Chris Higgins? Viktor Stalberg?)

Keep Marleau here. You need a much more proven defenseman coming back than Voynov or Josi. I'm fans of both young d-men, but not at the expense of Marleau.

Dropping Nick Foligno isn't a huge loss to me, and probably a chance you can still pick him back up if Alffy gets hurt for the season(if there is a season) and or retires at the end of it.

Think you answered your own question here no? Keep Alfie if there is a season, and if not, time to say goodbye.
