Sgarbossaaaa (you have to say it like that)

Hey guys,
One of these days, my keeper league (the one in my sig) is gonna do its draft and I'm looking for some nice sleepers out there to grab that other owners won't know much about.

I may have a lot of bias due to my undieing love for the Colorado Avalanche, but I was wondering if I could dole out some rec's for your guys' thoughts on Mike Sgarbossa. He tore up the OHL the last two years, and hes leading the Lake Erie Monsters in points this year. Anyone see him as a future fantasy stud on the big club? Is he worth a late round flyer?

I'd love some unbias view, as I know I may be hyping him too much in my own head!
Thanks!

Yeah late rounder would be an excellent choice because you dunno if his size will pan out in the NHL for him to be high-mid. I'm an Avs fan too though so obviously I'm excited.

I think he's going to be the steal in that trade with San Jose. He keeps performing and he's doing alright this year. If I'm not mistaken, he's on the smaller side, but I might be mixing him up with someone else. Plus, Colorado is a system that will be easy to get on the roster in a couple years. So definitely worth a later round pick.

Sgarbossa is a player I admittedly know very little about, but when he started producing in the AHL I swooped him up in my dynasty keeper just in case. The talent is there and he keeps producing...SJ could really look foolish if Sgarbossa becomes a legit top six player for Colorado. Not often teams trade a undrafted free agent signing who did nothing but get better since the day you signed him, in a package to land a couple role players, one of which you let walk via unrestricted free agency.

Not to mention McGinn was great for the Avs and was already better than Galiardi...that trade was a real head scratcher for me when it happened, even more so now.

a bit small but i could see him having a top six role in colorado. would make a nice sleeper in a late round.

His stats over the last while have been nice, and while that is a fun time for him, I doubt his exploits will carry through into Fantasy hockey relevance

I'm not sure if I'd take a chance on him with a smaller roster, but I would for sure if your league has a farm team/prospect team to stash him on.

Agreed with this. He's not going to be up on the big team for a bit but he's clearly a talented player and Colorado is going to give him every opportunity to make it. He's not a top line player but he could definitely give some decent second line level offense.

Sgarbossa sure is intriguing prospect. He does nothing but produce and is off to a great start to his AHL career as well. Colorado is pretty stacked on offense but with they way Sgarbossa is playing it wouldn't surprise me too see him work his way to that roster sooner than later. Could become a nice complementary player to the likes of Duchene, Landeskog and Stastny.

At this point he's Colorado's top forward prospect as Hishon doesn't seem to be able to recover from his concussion issues.

I picked him up with the 117th pick in our draft (held in September). He's a bloke i've been impressed with for a while. He was real good two years running at Sharks pre-season camps. Was surprised we moved him. Been happy to see he's carried it over to AHL. Just have to see if it'll carry to NHL now
