Follow My New Dynasty Draft

We've got a 12 team roto salary capped dynasty draft ongoing at the moment.

12 Fwds, 6 Def, 2 G, 5 Bench, 10 Farm (max 82gp F/D, 41 G)

12 Roto Cats:
Fwd/Def: G, A, Pts, Pims, Hits, Block Shots, SOG, Fwd Pts, Def Pts
Goaltenders: Wins (2 pts)+OTL (1 pt)+ SO (3 pts) as one Cat, GAA, SV%

I'll get this out of the way right now, I brought up the point of having Pts and Fwd Pts as two categories. Seems redundant. Tried to get this changed to PPP or TOI, but was told not this year. I will try to have Fwd Pts changed to something else next season.

Our inaugural draft will be 35 rounds with a slow draft that started a couple of days ago. I will update round by round. Feel free to add your comments as we go. Not sure how many in this league are on these boards.

Puckheads have the nicest draft so far, IMO.
Kops & Hellfish also with nice starts.

Pencil in BC IceHawks for a last-place finish based on first 7 rounds.

I stopped reading after I saw Giroux go 1st OVR and Ovechkin hang around till 10th in a league with Hits, SOG, etc. Wow.

It's because of the cap hit.

In our dynasty/salary cap league, Ovi went 13th. With his cap hit, I don't know where I would have taken him.

Ah, missed the salary cap part.

I guess I can see a case for Giroux in the top 5 then but I'd still personally be thrilled to land Ovi anywhere beyond top 3...

In my league we didn't have hits. Ovechkin has a cap hit of ?? 9 mil and we have a cap of 65 M. That's why Giroux was so valuable. I loved getting Tavares and Karlsson so cheap (we used last year's figures). This was our first 2 rounds:

1-1 4th Steven Stamkos, C, Tampa Bay Lightning
1-2 MJA Evgeni Malkin, C of the Pittsburgh Penguins
1-3 NS Sydney Crosby C Pittsburgh
1-4 Face Claude Giroux C Philadelphia
1-5 Paul S John Tavares C NYI
1-6 FedFed Ilya Kovalchuk LW New Jersey Devils
1-7 Marco Henrik Sedin, C Vancouver Canucks
1-8 The Ryan- Daniel Sedin, LW Vancouver Canucks
1-9 Amiezin- Tyler Seguin, RW Boston Bruins
1-10 Nalax- Rich Nash

2-11 Nalax- James Neal, LW Pittsburgh
2-12 Amiezin- Johnathan Quick, G Los Angeles
2-13 The Ryan Kris Letang D Pitt
2-14 Marco Alex Ovechkin LW Washington
2-15 FedFed Pekka Rinne G Nashville
2-16 Paul S Erik Karlsson D Ottawa
2-17 Face Cory Schneider G Vancouver:
2-18 NS Jonathan Toews C Chicago:
2-19 MJA Phil Kessel, RW, Toronto Maple Leafs
2-20 4th Jimmy Howard, G, Detroit Red Wings

Didn't mean to high-jack your thread.

I think that argument goes out the window when Rick NAsh is drafted ahead of Ovi... I mean seriously? And Seguin too...

Carcillo 11-09-2012 11:09 AM

There's a lot of WTF picks there to me. It doesn't say whether you use actual salary or cap hits but based on Kovalchuk falling all the way to 98th, I'm assuming it's actual salary. There's no other reasonable explanation for Kovy falling so far down in the draft.

Then again I see Suter getting taken 41st overall so that assumption flies right out of the window. Whether it's actual salary or cap hit, I'd never want to own Suter in a cap league. That's horrible, awful, fugly contract.

Couture at 92 and Patty Kane at 106 are great picks. Tremendous value there.

Streit at 56 over guys like Toews, E.Kane, Ryan, Skinner, Ryan, Duchene, OEL etc. in a keeper league? Not a fan of that pick.

Too much love for prospects also.

LOL- I didn't draft those guys.

But I'd rather have Seguin at a 3.5 cap hit that I could lock in for 5 years than Ovechkin at 9.5 when the cap is 65 M.

For a guy who had 65 pts and was trending downward, I wondered if Ovechkin was even going to get drafted. He is 15% of our cap.
