Shelby Miller called up

The Cardinals have summoned their top pitching prospect from Triple-A.

Keep an eye on him.

Looks like Miller is making his first big-league start tonight in place of Wainright who will be rested to prepare for the playoffs. After the Cards clinched a playoff berth last night it's a great opportunity to see what this guy can do in a starting role.

This is his chance to prove himself as a potential starting pitcher in the rotation next year.

Huge day for the kid.

I'd say he harnessed that opportunity. He took a no-hitter into the 6th and finished with 7K through 6 innings giving up just the one hit. He seemed to get stronger as the game went on, striking out the last 2 batters he faced in the 4th, and then struck out the side in the 5th. On top of that, he went 2-for-2, which were 2 of only 5 hits given up by Reds pitching to that point. One of his hits was a double. Almost too bad that the duel left him without a decision, his performance was definitely worthy of a W. Hope to see him in the rotation to start 2013.

Well said!

Definitely an intriguing player for next year.
