Frederick Andersen

With Andersen going back into the draft, and getting picked by Anaheim, what should we expect from him next year? Where's he fit into the Ducks' depth chart now? I own Bobkov in my keeper pool as well, and hope drafting of Andersen doesn't affect Bob Jr too much...

Well it depends on how Andersen views the situation in Anaheim. He didn't sign with Carolina because he wants to be a starting goalie soon and didn't see that happening in Carolina with Ward there. Does he see better chance for him in Anaheim behind Hiller? In Carolina he could also have gotten the chance to be a NHL goalie immediately, in Anaheim they'll go with Fasth as a backup. So is he willing to go to AHL if he sees a better chance to be a starter in the immediate future through that route? Tough to say. It's up to Andersen. If he signs with Anaheim, he'll be #3 goalie behind Hiller and Fasth.

In my opinion he should have signed with Carolina. He had the best chance there. They have basically no one behind Ward on their depth charts and you got to have a faith in your own abilities. Taking over the #1 spot from Ward is just as easy (or hard, however you wanna put it) as taking it from Hiller.

he'll be in Sweden next year at least. one of the reasons he turned down Carolina was because they did not want to sign him and loan him to Frolunda

Well Andersen has now signed a two-year ELC with the Ducks so guess he likes Anaheim better than Carolina. We'll see if he gets loaned back to Sweden for next year or if he comes over to NA immediately.

I would expect him to play one more year in Sweden, in fact I seem to remember reading he'd go back somewhere but I'm not 100% on that.

I'd think he slots in at 3rd on the Ducks depth-chart behind Hiller and Fasth, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if he passed Fasth within the year.

Andersen will only play in North America if he beats out Hiller or Fasth for a spot. Unlikely as Fasth is on a one-way and was signed to be the backup.

Andersen is having a good season in AHL. 15 games 7 wins 2.38 GAA and .928 SV%. Clearly outplaying Igor Bobkov (9 games 3 wins 3.99 GAA and .886 SV%).

This is an important development because opportunity is so important. If Andersen continues to be the better man he'll be first in line while Bobkov will have more obstacles to overcome.
