Dexter

saw the Breaking Bad thread, and thought i would start one about Dexter. Season starts this Sunday, anyone else watch it? I started watching it over the summer and got hooked. I finished all five seasons and it is phenomenal!

Watch it. Love it. Can't wait for it.

I also really like Breaking Bad too. Now I have to go find that thread.

I missed the last half of the last season so I should go get caught up on that before next season starts. Never had heard of the show until a few years ago a roommate said how awesome it was. He bought seasons 1 and 2 on DVD. One episode I was hooked. Took me two days to watch both seasons.

Can't wait - Dexter beats even Breaking Bad

Dexter is the best show I've ever seen. Ever.

It is very, very, very rare that a show gets better with every season.
Me & my wife started renting it from Netflix two years ago.

We ripped through seasons 1,2,3,4,5.
Each year is better than the previous.

The season 4 finale with Lithgow goes down, in my books, as the greatest TV season-series finale ever.

This is one of those "Everybody I know that has given this show a chance - loves it" shows.

One show that I found this is true with is Supernatural. First season and a half were a bit shaky, but it has been amazing since.

I have to agree with this too, but at the same time that is probably my only criticism of the show. It peaked too soon. Everything to follow since that season (and in particular that final episode) just seems like a bit of a letdown now. Our expectations are far too high. I also think that the show creators realize this too and have been struggling with what to do with the show. I know that with the upcoming season they are really advertising it as Dexter returning to the way he was before, before the "love and relationship" stuff got in the way. Personally, I really liked the way he was struggling to continue his work while somehow trying to have a relationship, though I concede that trying to have him start up a new relationship after the whole Lithgow thing was probably a bad idea.

see I don't totally agree with that, I find that while the acting has improved each season and the plot has gotten increasingly twisted and compelling that the writing has gotten sloppier over time. In particular with how they continually have to come up with ways for Dexter to get himself into (and then out of) trouble. I find increasingly that they resort to cheap and unnecessary plot devices to advance the story and often have the characters doing things that their personality would never do.

Its definitely a great show and one of my favorites, I just get frustrated with the sloppy writing sometimes.

I've never gotten into Breaking Bad - I'm planning on it! But yes, Dexter is up there in my books along with Californication, Entourage, and Shameless (not to mention the historical epics: A Game of Thrones, and the Spartacus series).
